About Canadian Equine Therapy Institute

Shantel Perreal

Shantel Perreal

B.Ed, B.Sc, Acupuncturist, HECO, CMT, Cranio-Sacral Therapist and Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine in progress.

Shantel started the Equine Remedial Therapist course because she was in shock with the lack of educational hours, and knowledge current practicing therapists have though out the country. It didn’t make any sense that a person can take a weekend massage course and be ‘certified’ to work on animals. With over 205 bones and 700 muscles of a horse, facial lines throughout the body and the nervous system running through it. There was NO way someone could know all of that in a weekend. You wouldn’t trust a massage therapist with a weekend course to work on you, so why do you with your horse?

As being a previous business owner of massage clinics for humans, she held a high standard for her new hires to have to up to date on current practices with more important on their knowledge of the human anatomy and physiology. This high standard was transferred to the horse world to her current students. Shantel continues her studies; please see her resume.

Current students are taught the origin, insertion, and innervation of each muscle in the equine body. This takes a majority of the first 2 years of school to learn. On top of learning the muscle structure, types, and nervous system our students are taught techniques as well that are tested with a practical exam to ensure proper and safe techniques.

The school emphasizes on safety when treating animals.

Practitioner and patient safety is a priority for our students to become a successful therapist. We WILL NOT pass students who show a lack of technique, knowledge or safety while practicing.

Future students are welcome to apply online. Upon receiving applications, if chosen, a phone/skype/ or in-person interview is required for full acceptance into the 4-year program.

The course is part-time in class (5 days, every second month), with full-time practice hours at home. The following IN CLASS schedule takes place for 5 days in the months of

September, November, January, March, and May.

Proof of practice hours is a requirement for the program, to keep a high standard of tracked practicing hours. Students MUST show proof of hours to continue each module. Upon completion of this 4-year program, graduates have 6500 educational and practical hours.
